Kate & Isaac Fall in Love and Get Married

I still remember the day Kate called to tell me about the christmas gift Isaac had given her. He was a new guy she’d mentioned a couple times, but there was something in her voice that I’d never heard before that made me pause what I was doing to listen. And as she described it – a framed antique map of Sequoia National Park – I could tell this guy was different than all the rest. He “got” Kate. And while I had never met Isaac in person (I didn’t get that honor until a couple days before their wedding) I knew immediately: this guy was gonna go the distance.

Like all great love stories, Kate and Isaac’s is not without a legend’s share of deserts endured and canyons crossed. They’ve done life together; found each other to be strong and constant. Last month I had the privilege of seeing them stand in the mountains, vowing to be together everlasting as the rocks that surrounded them. It was a weekend of  laughter & love, new friends, great food & hikes in the mountains.

Thank you, Kate & Isaac. Documenting the celebration of your life & love was the best thing evah!

Really? Tasty Oatmeal?

I know you don’t believe me, but I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast. Yup. That’s right.

Every morning for years now. And not just because it’s healthy and sticks around ’til lunch.

Because it’s tasty! Since I know you still don’t believe me, try it yourself. And let me know if you find a way to make it even better.

I dare ya.

Baked Oatmeal

In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine the following:

1/2 c. oil or applesauce
1/2 c. raw honey
2 farm fresh eggs
3 cups old fashioned oatmeal
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup raisins
1 apple, chopped

Pour into a 9×9 dish and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

I like it nice & hot with a little dash of cold milk. Then I refrigerate the leftovers and have enough to heat & enjoy for the rest of the work week. You might like it with with fresh peaches, blueberries, pineapple or bananas with ground flax or walnuts sprinkled over the top.

Enjoy!

Many thanks to Erin Daly, who gave me this recipe and rescued my mornings from gloppy microwave oatmeal!

Rider and His Family

There’s one thing you should know about Roxie. She doesn’t give up.

Ever.

I like that about her!

We had to reschedule their photo session no less than three times because of Ohio’s cold rainy weekend policy this Spring; even that didn’t slow her down. I’m so glad she persevered for the fourth time!

On the evening of our shoot, I was disappointed when I realized the sun wasn’t going to peek through for a sunset. Until I remembered that when you show up and expect beauty to happen, it usually does. If you’ll permit me to wax a little poetic, it seemed the low gray clouds provided the perfect foil for the joy and love shining quietly in Evan & Roxie’s eyes. Rider was in fine form, crawling everywhere and trying out his new little teeth on anything he was strong enough to lift. Tonight he celebrates his first birthday as well as the happy news that by Christmas, if everything goes well, he’ll be a big brother.

Thank you, Roxie & Evan, for letting me document your family’s love story!

Meet Cooper Mack

Much to his mother’s delight, Cooper Mack arrived – healthy and happy – two and half weeks early!  At four days old, he’s a cute lil’ peanut.
