I grew up wild and free in the woods of northern Indiana.
I ran around barefoot and built moss gardens for the elves that lived in the trees until I got too old and had to go to school like a civilized girl. At school, the teachers provided me with all the paint and pencils my little heart could wish for, and I was happy as the birds that lived in the branches of my favorite climbing maple. It was my sophomore year that I discovered photography satisfied my creative bent with immediate feedback - no longer did I have to spend weeks on just one project! My high school sweetheart contributed to the purchase of a sweet little Nikon SLR, and then I had to hold two jobs to pay for all the film I was burning through, learning the craft of photography. Eventually, that boy who understood me so well became my husband. He's never stopped encouraging me - and it's because of his support that I had enough courage to quit all those part time jobs that I disliked and become a full-time photographer!
I love the journey of the creative process and the constant learning and stretching it affords. Photography is my way of reaching out and connecting with people. What I lack in words, I've learned to make up for in images. And it's rare, but when all the pieces fall together perfectly, the results change people and inspire them to live courageously - with purpose. Those times are what I live and work for!
